BARBADOS
Where love is illegal

2015

An island that has everything we wanted: amazing beaches, local culture, exotic animals, outdoor activities and many more. We rented a house by the ocean, it seemed like everything was going to be perfect, like a dream. A week later, allout.org published an article about how being gay is still illegal in Barbados stating that people can go to jail if they show love to a same sex human being. I couldn't believe it, I didn't want to spend my vacation in a country that has a law that discriminates. I picked the wrong place where I couldn't be myself, where I couldn't even give a hug to my loved one. I didn't want to spend my money there, but it was too late. We took our wedding rings off, we went, and we chose a funny expression "Jamón York" to express our affection towards each other in order to avoid any suspicions. Honestly, we had a great time. Barbados is amazing and its nature is stunning. People are very kind, they easily speak to you and they respect you if you don't show who you really are. We didn't have a single problem. In the end, we were tourists and discreet, but we were scared about simply being humans.

BARBADOS
Donde amar es delito

2015
